SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - IPFW improved to 26-12 on the season and 9-3 in Summit League play on Saturday afternoon, as the Mastodons toppled the South Dakota State Jackrabbits by scores of 3-0 and 4-3.
Alex Bousquet and Larissa Franklin each went 4-for-7, while Dani Pugh was 3-for-5 with a team-high three RBI's. Ashleigh Bousquet scored three times, as Kayti Hanson stole a pair of bases. Miranda Kramer went 1-0 with a save and 12 strikeouts in 10 innings of work.
The Mastodons broke through first in the opener in the second inning when Brittany Kachur walked, stole second base, and scored on an Audrey Mintari single to provide what would end up being the game-winning score.
Another run in the fifth inning when Pugh singled home Ashleigh Bousquet put IPFW ahead 2-0, setting the stage for Pugh's second RBI of the game when she again chased home Bousquet with a single up the middle, giving the game its 3-0 final score.
Pugh was 2-for-3 for IPFW, with a pair of RBI's, while Bousquet was 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Kramer picked up the win, improving to 18-6 on the season, striking out nine while walking two, as her win total ties the single-season school record.
The nightcap saw the Mastodons go 11-of-30 at the plate, but the Mastodons trailed 3-0 after a bases-loaded triple in the bottom of the third inning.
IPFW answered quickly with four runs in the top of the fourth, starting with a bases-loaded single by Franklin that scored Hillary Kartman, before Pugh singled home Hanson. Alex Bousquet followed a batter later with a two-run single to center field that scored Franklin and Ashleigh Bousquet.
Franklin and Alex Bousquet were each 3-for-4 at the plate, while Kartman was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles. Alex Bousquet drove in two, while each of the team's four runs came from four different batters. Megan Flenniken picked up the win, pitching the first four innings of the game, striking out three while scattering three hits, improving to 7-6 on the year, while Kramer came in to pitch the last three innings, picking up her first save of the season with three strikeouts.
The Mastodons and Jackrabbits return to action on Sunday in the third and final game of the three-game series between the two teams.
