SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - A four-run bottom of the third inning did in the IPFW Mastodons on Sunday, April 28, as the squad fell to the South Dakota State Jackrabbits by a 4-3 score.

Alex Bousquet was 3-for-4 at the plate for the Mastodons, scoring twice, while Hillary Kartman was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI's. Miranda Kramer pitched the first two innings, surrendering four runs (three earned), falling to 18-7 on the season.

The Mastodons (25-13, 9-4 Summit) struck first in the game when Alex Bousquet hit a one-out single through the left side of the infield, before scoring on twin sister Ashleigh's double, putting the 'Dons ahead 1-0 after the first inning.

In the third inning IPFW loaded the bases with two outs, and a single up the middle by Hillary Kartman pushed the Mastodons ahead 2-0, before the Jackrabbits ran off four runs in the bottom of the third inning, including two on a triple to right field followed by a single to push SDSU (15-29, 5-16) ahead 4-2.

IPFW got a run back in the top of the fifth when Kartman doubled home Ashleigh Bousquet, but that would be all that the Mastodons could muster in the one-run loss.

Alex Bousquet and Kartman combined to pick up five of the team's seven hits, with Larissa Franklin and Ashleigh Bousquet each recording a hit in the loss. Megan Flenniken came on in relief and struck out one while scattering two hits over four innings of the game, walking one.

The Mastodons return home to host the final five games of the regular season, including a May 1 doubleheader against the Detroit Titans starting at 3 p.m.
