Mastodons Start Season-Ending Homestand

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodons start their season-ending five-game homestand on Wednesday, when the Mastodons host the Detroit Titans in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. at the Mastodon Softball Field.

ABOUT IPFW
IPFW comes into the final home stretch of the 2013 season after falling in the series finale against the South Dakota State Jackrabbits.
In the loss, the Mastodons jumped out to a 2-0 lead, before the hosts put up four runs in the bottom of the third inning. IPFW got a run back in the top of the fifth, but could not overcome the deficit.
This season the Mastodons put four players at or above a .300 batting average, led by Ashleigh Bousquet's .395 average. Larissa Franklin hits .380, while Alex Bousquet bats .319 and Dani Pugh .315. Ashleigh Bousquet has scored 31 times, while Franklin and Alex Bousquet have each crossed the plate 29 times. Ashleigh Bousquet has a team-high 11 doubles, seven home runs, and 33 RBI's, while Pugh has nine doubles and 31 RBI's, and along with Alex Bousquet has four home runs.
Miranda Kramer has struck out 207 batters this season in just 144.1 innings of work, while sporting an 18-7 overall record and a 1.84 ERA. Megan Flenniken is 7-6 this season with a 2.88 ERA and 104 strikeouts in 107 innings in the circle.
ABOUT DETROIT
Detroit comes into the doubleheader looking to snap its stretch of 12 losses in the last 13 games, including a four-game losing skid with losses to Valparaiso and Wright State.
In the last game, a 10-2 loss to the Wright State Raiders, the Titans jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning before the Raiders added seven in the bottom half of the inning, six batters coming to the plate before the first out of the inning. The Raiders added a run in the second, fourth, and fifth to give the game its 10-2 final score.
This season the team is led by Sara Cupp who bats .371 with 11 runs scored, six home runs, and 23 RBI's in the team's 45 games. Kayla Kostich sits second on the team with a batting average of .265, while Katelyn Steffel hits .250. Kostich leads the team with 19 runs score, while Alyssa Shaub has scored 18 times with a team-best 11 stolen bases.
Julie Maksym and Kat Hoffman have each started 18 games for Detroit, Maksyam with a 7.24 ERA and a 1-15 record, and Hoffman with a 7.55 ERA and a 2-16 record, while Karyn McCarty is 2-6 with a 7.49 ERA. Maksym leads the group with 41 strikeouts, while Hoffman has 33 and McCarty 21.
ALL-TIME SERIES
The Mastodons and Titans have met 15 times in each program's history, with Detroit holding a 9-6 lead. The teams split the first four meetings, before Detroit won six times between 2005 and 2009. Since 2009, IPFW has taken four of the last five encounters, out-scoring Detroit 29-8 in those five games.
NATIONAL RANKINGS
The IPFW Mastodons rank 28th in the country in stolen bases per game, 38th in doubles per game, and 54th in the country in won/loss percentage. As individuals, Kramer ranks 10th in strikeouts per seven innings (10.0), 31st in total strikeouts (208), 53rd in wins (18), 54th in shutouts (5), and 59th in ERA. Larissa Franklin ranks 39th in stolen bases, while Ashleigh Bousquet sits 45th in on base percentage (.510), 85th in batting average (.395), and 94th in slugging percentage (.697).
QUICK HITTERS
• Miranda Kramer's 207 strikeouts this season are tied for the Summit League lead, are a new IPFW single-season record, and stand as the 15th highest single-season total in Summit League history, and her 355 career strikeouts rank her 15th.
• Ashleigh Bousquet ranks 12th in Summit League career history with 115, while her 20 career home runs rank 17th in Summit League history
