Softball Closes Season Against Jaguars

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodons close out their 2013 regular season at home on Friday and Saturday, when the squad hosts in-state rival IUPUI. The Saturday game is also the program's Pink Out game, with all proceeds from the event going to the Jil Youth Sports Foundation.

ABOUT IPFW
IPFW comes into the final home series of the 2013 season after sweeping a doubleheader from the Detroit Titans by scores of 8-0 and 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
In the doubleheader, both Miranda Kramer and Megan Flenniken each threw a shutout against the Titans, while Larissa Franklin and Dani Pugh each picked up three hits, Franklin with two doubles with Pugh driving in three runs.
Leading the way for the Mastodons on the season has been Ashleigh Bousquet who bats .395, while Franklin sits close behind at .388. Pugh (.323) and Alex Bousquet (.310) each hit over .300 on the year, with Brittany Kachur not far off the pace at .277. Ashleigh Bousquet and Larissa Franklin have each scored 32 times, while Alex Bousquet has crossed the plate 30 times this year. Ashleigh Bousquet leads the team in doubles (12), home runs (7), slugging percentage (.694), and on-base percentage (.506), while tying for the team lead in triples (2, with Flenniken), and RBI's (34, with Pugh). Franklin leads four Mastodons in double-digit steals with 25, two off of her own single-season school record.
The pitching staff is led by Kramer, who has a 1.78 ERA and is 19-7 on the season, a single-season school record for victories, while striking out 216 batters, also a single-season school record. Flenniken is 8-6 on the year with a 2.70 ERA and 107 strikeouts in 114 innings of work.
ABOUT IUPUI
IUPUI also closes its 2013 regular season this weekend, after splitting a doubleheader with the Valparaiso Crusaders on Wednesday, falling in the opener 5-4 before rebounding with a 3-1 win in the nightcap.
In the series finale win, the Jaguars scored there times in the bottom of the fourth, while surrendering just one run in the top of the seventh inning. Ali Mosier was 3-for-4, while Aundria Basquez was 2-for-3. Nicole Natter picked up the win, going 6.2 innings, striking out six.
For the season, Mosier leads the team with a .321 batting average and 30 RBI's. Eryn Dillon bats .273 with 23 runs scored, while Kelsey Rupert hits .252 with a team-high 24 runs. Jessica Lam has a team-best seven home runs, while Mosier leads the team with 20 stolen bases, while Morgan Schlobohm also has double-figure steals with 10.
Five players have pitched at least 39 innings for the Jaguars, and IUPUI is led by Jocelyn Oppenhuis, who has 79.0 innings in the circle with a 4-11 record and a 3.28 ERA, while also leading the team with 89 strikeouts. Nikki Thomas is 2-6 with a 3.19 ERA, while Cassie Vodde is 7-4, Emili Escamilla 3-3, and Natter 2-3.
ALL-TIME SERIES
IPFW and IUPUI have met 26 times in each program's history, all but one year since 2002. IUPUI held a 9-1 lead through the first 10 meetings, until IPFW ran off a stretch of 13 wins in a 16-game span; however, the Jaguars have won the most recent meeting, a 3-2 IUPUI win in Indianapolis last season.
NATIONAL RANKINGS
The IPFW Mastodons rank 28th in the country in stolen bases per game, 38th in doubles per game, and 54th in the country in won/loss percentage. As individuals, Kramer ranks 10th in strikeouts per seven innings (10.0), 31st in total strikeouts (208), 53rd in wins (18), 54th in shutouts (5), and 59th in ERA. Larissa Franklin ranks 39th in stolen bases, while Ashleigh Bousquet sits 45th in on base percentage (.510), 85th in batting average (.395), and 94th in slugging percentage (.697).
COACHING RECORD
IPFW head coach Amy Tudor's 130 career wins puts her five wins away from tying the school's win record of 135 set by Keith Fisher from 1999 until 2009.
PINK OUT
In the Saturday regular season finale, the IPFW softball team will be hosting its Pink Out for breast cancer awareness. All funds will benefit the Jil Youth Sports Foundation.
