Softball Closes Regular Season with Shutout of Jaguars

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodons completed the season-ending series sweep of the IUPUI Jaguars on Saturday afternoon after a 4-0 Mastodon win at the IPFW Softball Field.

Starting pitcher Miranda Kramer picked up her seventh shutout of the season, striking out 13 over the seven innings, walking two and scattering three hits in the contest, improving to 21-7 with the victory.

IPFW (31-13, 12-4 Summit) wasted little time in jumping on the scoreboard, as leadoff hitter Alex Bousquet doubled off the glove of the IUPUI first baseman to lead off the bottom half of the inning, before a bunt single and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases with no outs in the inning.

After a fielder's choice put out Alex Bousquet at home, Hillary Kartman drove in the first, and game-winning, run with a fielder's choice that scored Larissa Franklin. Audrey Mintari followed with a pop-up to shallow right field that IUPUI second baseman Ali Mosier was able to grab with her back towards home plate, and Ashleigh Bousquet scooted home just ahead of the throw putting the 'Dons ahead 2-0.

IUPUI (18-31, 7-16 Summit) threatened in the top of the fourth inning with back-to-back singles up the middle, but those would be the final hits of the game for the Jaguars.

Two scoreless innings followed before IPFW again loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth, with a pair of runs scoing on a single to right field off the bat of Ashleigh Bousquet, putting IPFW on top by a 4-0 score.

The game ended quietly, with a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the seventh, and IPFW cruised to the series sweep.

Alex Bousquet was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, while Franklin, Ashleigh Bousquet, Audrey Mintari, Brittany Kachur, and Hanson each picked up a hit.

The Mastodons return to action over the next weekend, when the squad travels to Fargo, N.D. to compete in the 2013 Summit League Championships hosted by North Dakota State.
