
Men's Soccer Hosts Dayton in Sunday Afternoon Match-Up

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Coming off of a 2-2 tie in the opener against the Northern Kentucky Norse, the IPFW Mastodons will play host to the Dayton Flyers on Sunday afternoon.

ABOUT IPFW
IPFW comes into their meeting with the Dayton Flyers after playing to a 2-2 draw against the Northern Kentucky Norse in each teams' regular-season opener.
IPFW scored less than five minutes into the game, and took a 2-0 lead with a little over 12 minutes left in the first half, only to see the Norse score in the 50th and 82nd minutes of the game to knot the score at two goals apiece. The remaining 28-plus minutes went without a goal, as the team's played to an even draw.
Goalkeeper Raphael Kotzock picked up a game-high eight saves in the tie, as Northern Kentucky out-shot IPFW 27-to-12 in the match.
ABOUT DAYTON
In their final exhibition match, the Dayton Flyers topped the Eastern Illinois Panthers the Flyers scored the first and last goals of the match, en route to the 2-1 victory.
Dayton's Ryan Peterson scored the contest's first goal in the 39th minute, before Eastern Illinois knotted the score at one apiece in the 63rd minute. Just over five minutes later Eddie Jones scored from five yards out to provide the game-winning goal in the exhibition contest.
Goalkeeper Chris Froschauer went the entire 90 minutes, picking up four saves, while Maik Schoonderwoerd took a team-high four shot attempts.
ALL-TIME SERIES
IPFW and Dayton had played two times prior, with Dayton holding onto a 2-0 lead in the all-time series. The first meeting came in 2010, an overtime Flyer win, while last season the teams met for a 4-1 Dayton win.
QUICK HITTERS
• The Mastodons return four starters and 14 letterwinners from last seasons' team, including Corey Tom, who was named Second Team All-Summit League last season.
• The Mastodons have advanced to back-to-back Summit League Tournaments, winning four of the team's last five games last season to advance to the four-team championship tournament.
• The 2013 Mastodons have players from six different countries including the United States, England, Canada, Scotland, New Zealand, and Germany, while Dayton has players from the United States, England, Sweden, France, Jamaica, Switzerland, Ghana, Netherlands, Canada, and Costa Rica - 10 countries total.
• The Mastodon season-opening tie was the first for the program since 2008, when IPFW opened the season with a tie against St. Joseph's College, also by a 2-2 score.

• The game against NKU opened a stretch of nine games in which IPFW will play opponents from eight different conferences: Northern Kentucky (Atlantic Sun), Dayton (Atlantic 10), Loyola (Missouri Valley), Kentucky and Marshall (Conference USA), St. Francis (Northeast Conference), Marshall, Wisconsin (Big 10), UIC (Horizon League), and Oral Roberts (Summit League)
