HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - A Jacob Murphy goal in the 15th minute of the match knotted the score at one apiece, but a goal in the final minute of the first half, and an insurance goal in the 80th minute gave the match its 3-1 final score.
IPFW (0-4-1) out-shot St. Francis (4-1-0) 13-to-10 in the match, while holding a 5-1 advantage on corner kicks.
St. Francis wasted little time in the game, as Nick Kolarac was able to put a lob shot over the head of Raphael Martinez for the game's first goal.
Just over 10 minutes later, freshman Jacob Murphy slid a shot under a diving goalkeeper, and into the back of the net for his second collegiate goal.
The match remained tied for nearly 30 minutes before the Red Flash's Matt Loughnane scored an unassisted goal with 54 seconds remaining before halftime, giving St. Francis a 2-1 lead heading into the break.
The teams' defenses were stout after halftime, with the teams needing over 30 minutes to find the back of the net again, coming when Ty Geesey took a pass from across the goal, and beat the IPFW keeper.
Of IPFW's 13 shots, four players - Murphy, Kyle Ackerman, Jose Rodriguez, and Austin West - each had two shots, with both of Murphy's coming on goal.
Raphael Kotzock picked up one save while allowing the three goals, while his counterpart had four saves while allowing a solitary goal in 90 minutes of work.
The Mastodons return to action on Sunday, September 15, when the squad plays tournament host Marshall at 2:30 p.m.
