DAY TWO RESULTS (.pdf)
TOLEDO, Ohio - IPFW's No. 1 doubles team of Miloslava Shustova and Mayu Sato, and the No. 2 squad of Marcy Huck and Kristine Lindal each took home flight championships, as the Mastodons wrapped up the first day of the Toledo Rocket Invitational.
"This was a good start for our team," said head coach Eric Burns. "Our new players got a lot of experience and made great progress. We performed a little better than I thought we would, and I was really proud of our doubles play, but we need to be stronger across the board in singles. I'm excited for Bowling Green next weekend"
As a team, the Mastodons finished in second place in the hidden duel format with four points and a 2-1 record against the teams. Toledo won the event by earning nine points and a perfect 3-0 record against the teams. Detroit (4 points, 1-2) and Duquesne (1 point, 0-3) rounded out the four teams in the field.
The day started well for the 'Dons, as they swept Duquesne in the doubles competition, with Shustova and Sato winning 8-5, Lindal and Huck winning 8-6, and Ella Norgren and Carlota Trevino winning 8-3 at No. 3.
The trio won again against Detroit, the No. 1 and No. 2 squads each won 8-2, while the No. 3 team won by default.
Toledo swept the "A" and "B" singles flights against the Mastodons, to round out the weekend for the Mastodons.
Next up for the Mastodons is the Bowling Green Invitational on September 20 and 21 in Bowling Green, Ohio.
