Tennis Closes Day One of Bowling Green Strong

DAY ONE RESULTS
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Four of six singles players went 1-1 on the day for the Mastodons, as the squad competed in the first day of the Bowling Green Invitational.
Three Mastodons - Mayu Sato, Ella Norgren, and Marcy Huck each won their first match of the tournament, before falling in the second round, and will play for third place tomorrow. Miloslava Shustova will play for fifth after falling in the first round before picking up a win.
Sato topped Alexa Miller of Duquesne 6-4, 6-2, before falling to Cincinnati's Ashleigh Witte in the second round.
Norgren needed three sets to beat Duquesne's Sarah Shashura 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, before falling to Kelly Poggensee-Wei of Cincinnati.
In the third singles flight, Shustova fell to Toledo's Chrissy Coffman, before winning in straight sets over Bianca Avram of Toledo 6-3, 6-4.
At the No. 4 singles flight, Huck topped Valery kulikovskaya 6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-1, before falling to Harley Hutchison of Bowling Green.
Sofia Sorokina dropped each of her two matches at No. 5 singles, while Carlota Trevino went 0-2 at No. 4 singles.
The Mastodons return to action in the second of two days of the invitational.
