Mastodon Tennis Closes Action at Michigan State

TOURNAMENT RESULTS
EAST LANSING, Mich. - Behind a pair of singles players playing in the consolation finals, and a perfect 3-0 singles weekend from Sonya Sorokina, the IPFW Mastodons closed action at the 2013 Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational hosted by Michigan State University.
After going 2-0 on the first day, Sorokina won her only singles match of the second day by a 1-6, 6-3, 10-6 score over Emmy Virkus of Michigan State, putting her at a perfect 3-0 in the Draw C Singles round robin bracket.
Mayu Sato, playing in the Draw A Singles Consolation Championship, fell 6-7, 7-6 (2), 10-7 to Princess Gbadamosi of Cleveland State, evening Sato's record to 2-2 on the weekend.
Also finishing with an even 2-2 weekend was Carlota Trevino, who fell in the Draw B Consolation Championship by a 6-3, 6-0 score to Ann-Sophie Hahn of UIC.
Marcy Huck won her lone match of the final day with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Katarina Lingl of Michigan State in the Draw B Singles.
The doubles pair of Ella Norgren and Trevino fell 8-6 to Jennifer Yen and Anna Zelechonok of Michigan State in the consolation bracket semifinals.
Closing out play in the Draw A Singles, Norgren fell 6-0, 6-0 to Kathryn Sharples of UIC, while Miloslava Shustova dropped a 6-3, 6-0 match to Mariana Palacios of UIC in the same section of the bracket.
After a weekend off, the Mastodons will take part in the ITA Regionals in Ann Arbor, Mich. from October 10-14.
