FORT WAYNE, Ind. – After a successful trip out west at the UCSB Asics Invitational to begin the 2014 season, the IPFW men's volleyball team returns home to host Sacred Heart on Friday, January 10 in the Gates Sports Center.

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
The Pioneers were picked to finish seventh this season in the EIVA Preseason Poll after finishing the 2013 season with an overall record of 4-19 with a 2-12 mark in the EIVA.
Senior outside hitter Brad Borsay returns to lead the Pioneers in 2014. Borsay led the team in kills (274), aces (31) and digs (168) a season ago, and was third in blocks (27). Ben Thomas is also back as the team's setter. As a freshman, Thomas handed out a team-high 817 assists.
Defensively, Sacred Heart brings back its leading blocker in Raymond Satagaj, who recorded 56 total blocks last season, and A.J. Logosh, who finished second on the squad with 144 digs.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. SACRED HEART
IPFW holds a 3-1 record all-time against the Pioneers. After falling in the first-ever meeting between the two squads on Jan. 28, 2011, the Mastodons have won three straight, including two in Fort Wayne.
LAST TIME OUT
After earning the No. 3 seed following pool play matches – where the 'Dons defeated ranked opponents UCLA and Cal State Northridge – the IPFW men's volleyball took on Cal Baptist on Saturday, Jan. 4 for fifth place at the 50thannual UCSB Asics Invitational.
Cal Baptist, who entered the match ranked No. 15 in the AVCA Preseason Top 15 poll, took the match's opening set, but the 'Dons battled back behind a career-high 19 kills from junior Ramon Burgos to win the next three and come away with the 3-1 victory (19-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-22).
Burgos finished the match hitting at a .680 clip, tallying 19 kills on 25 attempts. Andrew Sellan, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, added 15 kills while Eddie Rivera and Bryan Saunders recorded 10 kills each. Rivera came up one dig shy of a double-double, registering nine on the afternoon. Omar Rivera directed the high-powered offense with 56 assists.
IPFW hit .500 from the floor to go along with their 65 kills compared to Cal Baptist, who hit .490 as a team with 57 kills.
CLIMBING INTO THE RANKINGS
After a win in the team's season opener against California Baptist, the IPFW men's volleyball team climbed to 15th in the American Volleyball Coaches Association National Poll, announced on January 6.
IPFW earned 29 points in the poll, and is one of two teams who did not receive votes a week to ago to being ranked in the top-15 this week. The Mastodons are also one of four MIVA squads in the top-15.
This is the first time the squad has been ranked inside of the top-15 since March 3, 2008, where the squad was ranked 15th for two consecutive weeks.
