
Doubles Dominate at Toledo Invite First Day

TOLEDO, Ohio - The IPFW women's tennis team swept its doubles matches during the first of two days at the Toledo Invitational.
Played in a hidden-duel format, the Mastodon pairs swept their opponent from Duquesne, while winning 7-of-13 singles matches on the day.
Opening in doubles, the Mastodons swept their opponents from Duquesne, led by an 8-2 score from the No. 1 pair of Marcy Huck and Mayu Sato. Sara Sherif and Alina Schibol picked up an 8-7 (7-2) win at No. 2 pairs, with Kristine Lindal and Carlota Trevino earning an 8-2 win at No. 3.
Leading off the singles portion, the IPFW women's top three players were paired with Detroit's same pair, with IPFW No. 1 player Mayu Sato winning 6-2, 5-7, 12-10. Sherif also used three sets to win at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 2-6, 10-5. Schibol picked up the team's only loss in the grouping, falling in a hard-fought, 6-2, 6-4 match at No. 2.
In B Singles against their opponents from Detroit, Sofia Sorokina won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5, while Emily Richardson picked up a team point with a walkover win at No. 6. Trevino fell 6-3, 7-5 at No. 4 against the Titans.
In A Singles against Duquesne, the Mastodons fell in all three of their matches, as Sato fell 7-5 6-7 (7-5), 10-4, Schibol dropped a 6-2, 6-3 score at No. 2, and Sherif fell 7-5, 6-0 at No. 3. The B Singles group proceeded to answer by sweeping Duquesne, led by a Trevino 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 4, a Sorokina 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 5, and a 6-2, 6-1 victory by Huck at No. 6.
The Mastodons return to action with two sets of doubles matches and one remaining singles pairing at the Invitational.
