Spencer, Johnson, and Spence Earn Double-Double In Loss

FARGO, N.D. - The IPFW women's volleyball team dropped a tough road match to North Dakota State 3-2 (16-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-23, 15-8). The loss puts the Mastodons at 13-18 overall on the season and 7-8 in Summit League play.
Emily Spencer led all players with a match-high 24 kills to go along with 22 digs for her 18th double-double of the season. Spencer also extended her school record to 52 consecutive matches with double figure kills.
Somer Johnson and Madison Spence each added a double-double on the night, their fourth and third of the season, respectively. Johnson made 13 digs and 12 kills, while Spence dished out a match-high 47 assists and added 11 digs and five blocks. Sarah Heckman ended the night with a career-high 16 kills.
Defensively, Kendall Wienkes led all players with a season-high 25 digs. Este Stoffel and Olivia Hahn each made nine digs. Anna Wrede had a match-high eight blocks while Natasha Medic made three.
IPFW never trailed in the opening set after jumping out to a 3-0 lead. With the score tied 21-21 in the second set, the Bison scored the next two points to propel them to win the frame. In the third set, it was the Mastodons scoring two of the final three points to take the set.
In the fourth frame, NDSU used an early 6-0 run to win the set and force the decisive fifth. The final set was just as tough for the Mastodons. With the score tied 5-5, the Bison closed out the match with a 10-3 advantage to take the match.
IPFW wraps up the regular season with a trip to Denver on November 16 with first serve at 2 p.m.
