
Mastodons Look to Rebound in DeLand

DeLAND, Fla. - After falling to a buzzer-beating three-point basket in the team's last game, the IPFW men's basketball team will look to rebound with a mid-week battle with the Stetson Hatters of the Atlantic Sun Conference.

SCOUTING THE HATTERS
Stetson comes into the mid-week battle with the Mastodons after snapping a three-game losing skid with a 12-point win over Florida A&M in Greeley, Colorado.
In the win, Brian Pegg scored a team-high 14 points while pulling down 10 rebounds for the team's first double-double of the season. Divine Myles added 13 points, as Kentwan Smith added five boards. Angel Rivera scored seven points while dishing out seven assists, while the Sikora brothers, Wyatt (2) and Kyle (1) had 60 percent of the team's blocks in the game.
For the year, Pegg paces the squad by averaging 13.0 points and 5.4 rebounds per game through eight games in the season. Myles also averages double figures at 10.0 points per game, and Smith is not far off of the double-figure pace at 8.5 points per contest. Rivera has dished out 34 assists (4.3 per game) against just 11 turnovers on the year.
FAMILIAR FACES
Two current members of the IPFW men's basketball team have direct ties to DeLand, Florida, by way of Stetson University. Current Mastodon head coach Jon Coffman spent eight seasons (2001-2009) as assistant coach with the Hatters. IPFW big man Steve Forbes spent his freshman season in DeLand, where he averaged 7.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, starting 20 times during the year. Additionally, Coffman's wife Tracy, is a former Hatter assistant softball coach. DeLand is where the Coffman's oldest son, Tommy, was born.
RUNNING DOWN A DREAM
Using Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers as an example, the 2014-15 IPFW men's basketball team has had four games this season in which it has put together runs of 10-0 or better. Below are the team's runs of 10-0 or more this season.
QUICK HITTERS
• IPFW has recorded runs of 10-0 or better in four of its five games this season, with the team putting together six different 10-0 or better runs total on the year. See page two for a full listing of all the teams' 10-0 runs.
• IPFW head coach Jon Coffman spent eight seasons as assistant basketball coach at Stetson, which is where he met is wife Tracy (former Hatter assistant softball coach) and the pair's son Tommy was born in DeLand.
• Mastodon center Steve Forbes started his career at Stetson, where he played one season before transferring to a junior college as a sophomore. He then redshirted his next season, and have played in each of the last two seasons at an All-League level.
• Forbes currently ranks 14th in the country in career field goal percentage among active players.
• IPFW stands as the only team in the Summit League with four players occupying spots in the top-21 in the league scoring race, with Steve Forbes, Isaiah McCray, Mo Evans, and Joe Edwards all marking inside the top 21 overall.
• The state of Indiana is 42-17 this season among its 10 NCAA Division I basketball programs, with nine of the ten sitting with records of .500 or better, including IPFW which is 3-2.
• IPFW senior guard Isaiah McCray had a career-best effort against SIUE in points (23), rebounds (12), a career-high-tying six assists, while also blocking two shots.
• IPFW was picked to finish first in the Summit League in the preseason poll of the league's head coaches, SIDs, and select media members.
• IPFW's 25-11 record last year was the most wins and highest win percentage of any NCAA Division I team in the state.
• The Mastodons will play in 11 games that will be nationally and regionally televised, highlighted by the December 8 game at Purdue. Among that group are five others that are televised on ESPN3, and five on Fort Wayne's PBS39 station.
