Baseball Prepares For Three-Game Series at Southeast Missouri

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The IPFW baseball team heads out on the road for a three-game series at Southeast Missouri State beginning February 21 at 4 p.m. (ET).
Opponent: Southeast Missouri State Redhawks (3-2)
When: February 21 (4 p.m.), 22 (3 p.m.) and 23 (2 p.m.).

IPFW is coming off a four-game split with Alabama A&M to open the season. The Mastodons won both nine inning games, 5-2 and 10-5, but dropped the seven inning contests 5-1 and 11-4.
The Mastodons Kevin Wirth was named the Summit League and College Sports Madness Player of the Week after a pair of three-hit, four-RBI contests in the Mastodon wins. He also added a hit and RBI in the series finale. For the week, Wirth batted .583 (7-for-12) with nine RBI and three runs scored. He added two extra base hits (double, home run) and a walk while slugging .917 with a .600 on-base percentage.
Scouting SEMO
The Redhawks were picked to finish sixth in the Ohio Valley Conference preseason poll. They are led by junior second baseman Jason Blum was named Louisville Slugger Preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball newspaper. Southeast returns all eight positional starters from last season, as well as the designated hitter. Southeast did take a large hit on the pitching staff as only five pitchers return; two of which sat out last year due to surgery.
