Women's Tennis Sweeps Home Doubleheader

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW women's tennis team picked up a pair of 6-1 victories on Friday, winning 6-1 over former Summit League foe Oakland in the afternoon, and then 6-1 over the Northern Kentucky Norse on Friday evening.
In the opener, the Mastodons swept the doubles competition en route to earning the doubles point. Mayu Sato and Marcy Huck teamed up to win 8-2 at No. 1 doubles. The 'Dons secured the doubles point when Carlota Trevino and Sofia Sorokina won 8-4 at No. 3 doubles. IPFW put the icing on the cake with an 8-4 win by Miloslava Shustova and Emily Richardson at No. 2 doubles.
Marcy Huck picked up a quick 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles, putting IPFW ahead 2-0 in the match. Oakland picked up their lone win over Trevino at No. 6 singles, before the Mastodons swept the final four singles matches of the afternoon.
Sorokina won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, before Sato won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 singles to give the Mastodons the match victory. Ella Norgren won 6-2, 4-6, 10-4 at No. 2 singles, before Miloslava Shustova won in the marathon-match of the afternoon 4-6, 7-5, 10-2.
Against Northern Kentucky, the Mastodons swept the first two doubles matches, earning the team point. Shustoava and Ridhardson won 6-2 at No. 2 doubles, before Trevino and Sorokina picked up a 6-2 win at No. 3, giving IPFW the point. Northern Kentucky picked up the win at No. 1 doubles, winning 6-3 over the pair of Huck and Sato.
IPFW ran off five straight singles wins to open the second half of the match, starting with a 6-4, 6-0 win by Shustova at No. 4 singles. Huck won by 6-2, 6-2 scores at No. 5, before Richardson won 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 at No. 6, securing the Mastodon victory and 2-1 season record.
Sorokina won in three sets 7-5, 5-7, 10-8 at No. 3, before Sato closed out the Mastodon wins by a 7-6 (7-6), 2-6, 10-7 win at No. 1 singles, improving to 3-0 on the year at the top spot in the Mastodon lineup.
The Mastodons return to action on February 9, when the team hosts the Cleveland State Vikings in a 10 a.m. start.
