Women's Tennis Falls to Cleveland State 5-2

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW women's tennis team dropped its record to 2-2 on the season with a 5-2 loss at home to Cleveland State, capping a three-match home weekend.
Cleveland State won the first completed doubles match at No. 2 by a 6-0 score, before the No. 1 doubles team of Mayu Sato and Marcy Huck picked up a 6-2 win to tie the doubles competition at one win apiece.
The team point came down to the battle at No. 3 where IPFW's Carlota Trevino and Ella Norgren faced off against CSU's Mathilde Orange and Ellen Folkers. The quartet of players battled, before the Vikings' duo held on for a 7-5 win, giving Cleveland State the 1-0 team lead.
IPFW quickly tied the score at one win apiece when Miloslava Shustova won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 singles over Victoria Bensimon. CSU's Princes Gbadamosi won 6-2, 6-2 over Ella Norgren at No. 3 singles, before Mathilde Orange won 7-5, 6-2 overr Marcy Huck at No. 5 to put the Vikings on the brink of victory.
The Mastodons would not go quietly, as Mayu Sato improved to 4-0 in the fall at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win, and closing the gap to one at 3-2 in the match scoring.
Cleveland State closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles when Alex Bush topped Sofia Sorokina, and at No. 6 where Ellen Folkers defeated Carlota Trevino 6-4, 6-3.
The Mastodons remain at home next weekend when the team hosts Toledo and Bradley on February 14, and Wright State on February 15.
