Softball Shuts Out Final Opponents of Aces Invite

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The IPFW softball team swept its final opponents on the final day of the Evansville Aces Invite, winning 4-0 over Murray State and 3-0 over Evansville.
Larissa Franklin was 4-for-6 at the plate on the day, while Ashleigh Bousquet was 3-for-6 with two home runs. Franklin and Bousquet each scored three times, as the duo crossed the plate for six of the team's seven runs on the day.
In the opener the Mastodons struck in the top of the first inning when Ashleigh Bousquet hit a two-run home run, providing the game-winning score.
IPFW added to its lead in the top of the fourth when Ashleigh Bousquet opened the inning with a double, before scoring on a Beka Ferguson sacrifice fly.
A Dani Pugh single in the fifth inning chased home Franklin for the game's final run.
Three players - Franklin, Alex Bousquet, and Ashleigh Bousquet - each had two hits, with Franklin and Ashleigh Bousquet scoring twice.
Miranda Kramer improved to 9-3 on the season, striking out 11 in her complete game shutout, scattering five hits without walking a batter.
The nightcap started as a pitcher's duel between Megan Flenniken and Evansville starter Megan Gurski, with neither allowing a run through the first four innings of the contest.
Playing as the home team because of the tournament format, IPFW struck first in the bottom of the fifth inning when Larissa Franklin hit her second career home run.
An inning later Ashleigh Bousquet hit a leadoff home run, before Kelly Pevely singled home Ferguson, closing the scoring in the contest.
Franklin was 2-for-3, while Ashleigh Bousquet, Hillary Kartman, and Pevely each had one hit.
Flenniken struck out six while scattering five hits in the win, improving to 7-3 on the year.
The Mastodons return to action on March 14-16 at the Auburn War Eagle Classic, where the team will face Savannah State, Auburn, Alabama State, Ball State, and Radford.
