Softball Closes Weekend Sweep with Shutout

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The IPFW softball team completed a weekend sweep of the South Dakota State Jackrabbits in a 9-0 victory on Saturday afternoon at the Midwest Sports Complex in Indianapolis.
IPFW had 10 hits in the game in just 20 at-bats, with Larissa Franklin leading the way with three hits, as Kayti Hanson and Dani Pugh each went 2-for-2. Pugh drove in four, while Hanson and Alex Bousquet each scored twice.
Miranda Kramer improved to 12-4 on the season after scattering two hits over five innings of work, striking out 12 in the process.
After setting down the Jackrabbits by striking out the side in the top of the first, Pugh hit her fifth home run of the season over the center field wall, scoring herself and Franklin for the eventual game-winning runs.
Kramer once again struck out the side in the top of the second, before the IPFW offense erupted with five runs in the bottom half of the inning. Audrey Mintari led off the inning with a walk before Beka Ferguson singled, setting the table for Caitlyn DeLong who hit a three-run home run, putting the Mastodons ahead 5-0.
After a single, stolen base, and walk, Franklin singled down the left field line to score Hanson. before Pugh walked to load the bases. Ashleigh Bousquet was hit by a pitch for the first of two times in the game, pushing home twin sister Alex, giving IPFW the 7-2 lead.
The Jackrabbits threatened in the third inning with a leadoff single, where the batter was advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt; however, back-to-back strikeouts ended the threat.
The Mastodon offense came out firing again, as the IPFW offense put together a two-out rally, loading the bases with three consecutive singles loading the bases, before Pugh singled home a pair to give the game its 9-0 final score.
The win improves IPFW to 22-7 overall and 3-0 in Summit League play The squad returns to action in six days when the team hosts the South Dakota Coyotes in each squad's second Summit League series of the season.
