Track and Field Falls in Dual Meet with Ball State

MUNCIE, Ind. – The IPFW track & field team fell on Friday afternoon to the Ball State Cardinals in a two-team dual meet, in which the Mastodons set numerous personal records.
The Mastodons picked up 168 points, as Ball State ended the meet with 290.
Kayla Zink led the way for the Mastodons, placing first in the shot put and discus, and second in the hammer throw. Zink's toss in the discus was 156-feet, 2-inches (47.61 meters), which is the second-best toss in school history, while Shalyn Renfrow placed fourth in the event with a toss of 118-0 (35.79 meters). In the hammer throw, she took second place with a personal-best toss of 157-0 (47.86 meters), as Kaeleigh Porter placed third with a toss of 155-8 (47.45 meters).
Zink also set a new personal-best in the shot put with a throw of 44-3.25 (13.49 meters), winning the event with the eighth-best throw in school history. Lizzy Frazee took third in the event with a throw of 32-10.25 (10.01 meters).
Brittany Beard ran the second-fastest 1,500-meter time in school history, behind her school-record time from a season ago, winning the race in 4:42.53, while Julie Jeszenszky placed fourth in a time of 5:01.95. Beard also took first in the 800-meter run, chasing around the track in a time of 2:21.26, the seventh-fastest time in program history. Emily Craig (4th/2:31.12) and Jazmin Zavala (5th/2:40.33) also competed for the Mastodons in the two-lap race.
Andrea Bell and Rachel Zachar went 1-2 in the 5,000-meter run, Bell closing in a time of 18:50.24 and Zachar 19:01.87.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Whitney Hampton, Kaylin Taylor, Kyley Marano, and Tori Nida ran the second-best time in school history in 50.26, finishing second in the race. The 4x400-meter relay team of Marano, Taylor, Alexis Wygant, and Nida also took second in a time of 4:15.26. Marano also placed fourth in the 200-meter dash, running the sixth-fastest time in school history
Wygant and Kara Scobey took third and fourth in the 400-meter dash in times of 1:04.60 and 1:13.07, respectively. Karson Rowe led three straight Mastodon finishers in the 3,000-meter steeple chase with a time of 12:22.57, placing third in the field. Marano took third in the high jump, clearing a height of 4-11 (1.50 meters), while Wygant took fourth in the pole vault, clearing 9-1 (2.77 meters).
In addition to her third place in the shot put, Frazee also took third in the javelin with a toss of 86-3 (26.28 meters), while Zavala placed fourth in 75-3 (22.94 meters).
IPFW returns to action next weekend as the squad splits between three meets on the weekend, competing at the Anderson Invitational on April 17, the Polytan Invitational hosted by Indiana on April 18 and 19, and the Jesse Owens Track Classic, hosted by Ohio State.
