ELMHURST, Ill. - IPFW tennis assistant coach Brett Barnett has been named the Summit League Men's Tennis Coach of the Year, as Gerard Guell and Daniel Kang were also named to the All-League team in the postseason awards voted on by the league coaches.
Barnett has helped lead IPFW to an 18-8 record - a program record for victories in a season - and a 4-1 record in Summit League play. IPFW's 4-1 record gave them the second seed in the upcoming Summit League Tournament, the highest seed since IPFW joined the league.
Kang, who played the entire season at No. 1 singles, has a 22-13 record over the fall and spring, including a 17-9 mark at No. 1 singles in the spring. He went 4-1 in Summit League play. He also teamed up with Andres Cobos at No. 1 doubles to go 24-10 on the season, 18-7 in the spring, and 4-1 in Summit League action.
Guell played primarily at No. 3 singles, and is 27-9 in singles this season. He was 13-1 at No. 3 singles, and 8-4 at No. 4. In doubles he teamed up with Martin Muadi for a 15-7 record in the spring, and 2-0 in Summit League matches.
The Mastodons open the Summit League Championships on Saturday, April 26 when the team faces off against South Dakota State with a 4 p.m. ET first serve.
