
Records Continue to Fall for Mastodon Track & Field

HILLSDALE, Mich. - Brittany Beard's all-out assault on the IPFW outdoor track & field record book continued over the weekend at the Hillsdale "Gina" Relays, as the Mastodons in the field completed numerous season bests, and many within the top-10 of their respective events in program history.
For the third consecutive weekend Beard set a school record, this time in the 800-meter run where she clocked a time of 2:14.87, nearly two seconds faster than her own school record that she set on April 5 at the Miami Invitational. Beard also narrowly missed her own school record in the 1,500-meter run, which was set last week, with a time of 4:34.42, the second-fastest time in program history.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Whitney Hampton, Kaylin Taylor, Kyley Marano, and Victoria Nida ran a time of 50.58, the third-best relay time in program history as Marano, Taylor, Alexis Wygant, and Nida teamed up for a 4:06.15 in the 4x400-meter relay, also the third-best time in program history.
In the hammer throw, senior Kaeleigh Porter put together the eighth-best toss in school history, setting a new personal-best with a distance of 160-feet (48.78 meters), placing eighth, while Kayla Zink placed 17th with a toss of 142-2 (43.34 meters). Zink also took fourth in the discus throw with a toss of 149-8 (45.61 meters), which is the sixth-best throw in school history.
Marano placed 11th in the high jump, clearing 5-2.25 (1.58 meters), a new collegiate personal best, and the seventh-best leap in school history.
Nida's time of 1:01.82 in the 400-meter dash was a new collegiate best for the freshman, taking 17th in the field, and seventh-best time in program history.
In the 400-meter hurdles, senior Taylor ran to a season-best time of 1:06.03, placing eighth and marking the sixth-best time in program history.
In the pole vault, Alexis Wygant popelled herself over a height of 9-2.25 (2.80 meters), the 10th best such leap in program history.
Freshman Whitney Hampton placed 24th in the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.06, before placing 38th in the 200-meter dash in a time of 27.09. Marano placed 36th in the 200, running a time of 27.00.
Julie Jeszenszky led a pair of Mastodons in the Championship race of the 3,000-meter steeple chase, running a personal-best time of 11:04.11 to place 10th, while Kayla Boyes ran a time of 11:35.50, placing 22nd. In the open race, Karson Rowe placed seventh in a time of 11:50.32, with Emma Mancess' time of 12:16.43 placing 13th.
The Mastodons are next set to compete at the Billy Hayes Invitational, the final tune-up before the Summit League Championships from May 15 though May 17.
