
Beard Breaks Pair of Records at Miami

OXFORD, Ohio - Freshman Brittany Beard set school records in the 800- and 1,500-meter runs, as the Mastodons took third of 10 teams at the Miami Invitational.
Beard broke the school record in the 800 by just .14 of a second in a time of 2:16.46, and by nearly two seconds in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 4:40.86.
IPFW earned 71 points in the event, behind just host Miami (Ohio) and Ball State, while topping Xavier, Butler, and IUPUI.
Beard's 1,500-meter time put her second in the field, with teammate Kayla Boyes taking seventh in a time of 4:43.95, the fifth-fastest time in program history and a new personal-best. Julie Jeszenszky placed 20th in 4:57.27. Beard placed fifth in the 800, just ahead of Boyes who placed seventh in a time of 2:19.06, also the fifth-fastest time in IPFW track & field history.
Kayla Zink took first in the discus throw with a toss of 44.87 meters, while teammate Shalyn Renfroe had a toss of 31.79 to place 12th. Zink also took third in the hammer throw with a personal-best toss of 46.49 meters, and fourth in the shot put in 12.51 meters.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Whitney Hampton, Kaylin Taylor, Kyley Marano, and Victoria Nida took fourth in the field in a time of 50.64, the second-best time in program history.
Hampton set a pair of personal collegiate-bests in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. She sprinted to a time of 13.10 in the 100, becoming the fourth-fastest sprinter in school history, while her time of 26.94 in the 200-meter dash makes her the seventh-fastest in the event in program history. Kara Scobey also ran a collegiate-best time of 13.70 in the 100 and 29.32 in the 200-meter dash.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Nida and Taylor ran identical times of 1:06.24, each tying for the eighth-fastest time in program history. In the open 400, Marano became the seventh-fastest runner in program history in the event with a time of 1:02.81, with Alexis Wygant finishing just behind in 1:02.88, now the eighth-fastest runner in program history.
Taylor, Wygant, Beard, and Nida grouped together in the 4x400-meter relay for a time of 4:12.30, the fourth-fastest time in school history, as Marano's leap of 9.62 meters in the triple jump makes her the sixth-best jumper in program history.
The team is back in action next weekend, as the squad competes in the Ball State Invitational.
