Guell Named Summit League Player of the Week

ELMHURST, Ill. - For the second time this season, IPFW sophomore Gerard Guell has been named the Summit League Tennis Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
Guell earns the honor after posting a 4-0 mark during the week in singles play, while adding a pair of wins in doubles. In his lone Summit League match of the week, Guell picked up a straight set (6-0, 6-1) win at No. 3 singles in a 5-2 Mastodon win that improved the team to 4-0 in Summit League play this year. He also notched victories against Creighton (6-4, 6-0), Valparaiso (7-6 (7-5), 6-1), and Grace (6-2, 6-1).
Playing at No. 2 doubles with Martin Muadi for an 8-3 win over the Creighton duo and an 8-5 win against Grace.
He has won nine straight singles matches, and 14 of his last 15, helping the Mastodons to a program-record 15 victories.
The Mastodons (15-6 on the season) return to action on Wednesday at home against Butler, with two matches following on April 12 against St. Bonaventure and Huntington.
