INDIANAPOLIS - Behind a third consecutive one-hit shutout from starting pitcher Miranda Kramer, and two home runs from leadoff hitter Alex Bousquet, the IPFW softball team swept the IUPUI Jaguars on the weekend with a 4-0 weekend finale final score.
With the win IPFW improves to 38-13 to end the regular season, to go with a 13-4 Summit League record, behind only the North Dakota State Bison for the top spot in the League regular season.
Alex Bousquet was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two solo home runs and an intentional walk, as Larissa Franklin was 2-for-3 at the plate. Kramer, who improved to 19-8 on the year, struck out 15 for the second consecutive start, giving her 301 strikeouts this season, the fourth-highest single-season total in Summit League history. The shutout was also the 13th of the season for Kramer, as that stands tied for the third-most in a season in League history.
Bousquet got the offense started with the game-winning run to lead off the third inning, as she clubbed a home run to center field, pushing the visitors to a 1-0 advantage.
In her next at-bat, Bousquet hit a one-out solo home run, this one to right field, pushing the Mastodons to a 2-0 lead. The offense did not stop with the longball, as Franklin followed with a triple to right field before scoring on a wild pitch.
The game reached its final margin when Prestlee Cooper scored from third base on a passed ball in the sixth inning.
The only Jaguar hit of the game came in the bottom of the second inning with a one-out triple; however, Kramer struck out the next to batters to keep the runner from advancing.
Full brackets for the upcoming Summit League Championships will be released later this weekend.
