Tom and Schweitzer Lead Mastodons in 1-0 Shutout at Asbury

WILMORE, Ky. – Corey Tom scores the lone goal as the IPFW men's soccer team fought to a 1-0 shutout over Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky on Friday night.
The Mastodons (2-2-1) earned a scrappy win over Asbury (2-3-0), following Tom's goal in the 24th minute. Mike Enghofer sent a pass in towards the net, while Tom put an extra foot on the ball, sending it over the Asbury keeper for what would be the game-winning goal.
"Our guys played really hard tonight," said head coach Mike Harper. "With that said, we still struggled putting the ball in the net. It was a difficult environment to play in, but they still managed to pull through and get the win."
The Eagles battled back, trying to tie the game, but a suffocating Mastodon defense was too much to overcome. Cody Schweitzer's sole save came in the 72nd minute, as the 'Dons earned their second shutout of the year.
IPFW had the upper hand in shots 13-4 and controlled the ball for the majority of the second half, outshooting the Eagles 9-2. Both teams split corner kicks with three each, while Asbury edged the 'Dons 2-1 in saves.
The Mastodons remain on the road as they travel to Highland Heights, Kentucky, to face the Northern Kentucky Norse on Sunday, September 14. The match is set to kickoff at 3 p.m., at the NKU Soccer Field.
