Huck and Sato Finish Undefeated as Pair at MSU Invite

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The doubles pair of Marcy Huck and Mayu Sato closed the 2014 Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational with a perfect 3-0 record at No. 1 doubles, as the Mastodons closed the second of two days of the competition.
The second of two days opened with the Mastodons facing off against Michigan State in doubles play, with Huck and Sato winning 8-7 (7-3). The pairs of Emily Richardson and Alina Schibol, and Carlota Trevino and Ella Norgren each fell at No. 2 and No. 3 respectively by identical 8-4 scores. Sofia Sorokina and Sara Sherif dropped an 8-1 score at No. 4 against the Spartans.
The Mastodons next faced off against the doubles pairs from Toledo, and Sato and Huck picked up a close 8-6 battle at No. 1, while Richardson and Schibol fell 8-5 at No. 2. The third spot for doubles saw Trevino and Norgren fall 8-3, while Sorokina and Sherif fell to a Michigan State pair by an 8-4 score.
In the final grouping of the weekend, the Mastodons faced off in a singles competition against Detroit, where IPFW went 4-3, opening with a Sato 6-4, 6-2 win over the Titans' Irina Slizovskaya at No. 1.
Carlota Trevino picked up a straight-set victory at No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 score, while Schibol won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5. Norgren fell 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) at No. 2, while Sorokina slipped 6-4, 6-1.
Emily Richardson faced off in two pro-sets against a different two Michigan State opponents, falling 8-6 in the opening set, before dominating by an 8-1 score in the second.
The Mastodons return to action next weekend when the squad travels to Bowling Green, Ohio, to compete in the Bowling Green Invitational.
