
Mastodons Travel to Las Vegas for UNLV Tournament

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The IPFW men's soccer team travels to Las Vegas to compete in the Johann Memorial Classic, hosted by UNLV. The Mastodons face off against the Rebels on Friday, September 5, at 10 p.m. (ET), followed by a match against the Cal State Roadrunners on Sunday, September 7, at 1:30 p.m. Both matches will be held at Johann Memorial Field.

SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
IPFW comes off one of its most impressive opening weekends, as the Mastodons scored eight goals from eight different student-athletes, finishing 1-0-1 through the first two matches. The 'Dons saw a 6-0 blowout over St. Joseph's (Ind.) to open the season on Friday, August 29, followed by a thrilling, come-from-behind 2-2 tie with Western Michigan on Sunday, August 31.Who: UNLV (2-0-0)

SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
Trailing by a goal late in the match against the Broncos, IPFW's Britt Watts dribbled through the Western Michigan defense, crossing the ball to a wide open Jacob Murphy, scoring the game-tying goal in the 81st minute.
Raphael Kotzock had a tremendous outing, making six stops against the Broncos. Of Kotock's six saves, three came in the first half with another in the first overtime, securing the deadlock with the Broncos.
The Mastodons currently have three players with three points as Murphy, Watts, and Scott Williams each have a goal and an assist after the first weekend.
SCOUTING THE REBELS
UNLV enters the tournament 2-0-0 after wins over Western Illinois (2-1 OT) and Bradley (4-3) on August 29 and 31, respectively. Connor Coletti scored the game-winning goal against the Leathernecks in the 92nd minute of play after receiving a deflection off a free kick moments earlier.The following match saw UNLV edge Bradley 4-3, highlighted by a hat trick from Salvador Bernal. With the Rebels trailing 2-0 in the first half, Bernal opened up the offensive attack, scoring twice before the period ended. Bernal finished the hat trick in the 49th minute after finding the back of the net following a deflection from a penalty kick. UNLV's Kyle Mellies scored the game-winning goal over Bradley in the 78th minute following a corner kick taken by Bernal.
The Rebels' Ryan Harding made a combined seven saves in two games.

SCOUTING THE ROADRUNNERS
Cal State Bakersfield enters the tournament coming off a 1-0 win over San Diego State on August 29, in San Diego. The Roadrunners only goal came early in the match as Jamie Carey-Morrell scored from five yards out in the 7th minute of play. Bakersfield also saw a five-save performance from Nicolas Clever, securing the shutout over the Aztecs.NEXT UP
