LAS VEGAS – The IPFW men's soccer team fell to UNLV 4-0 in the opening match of the Peter Johann Memorial Tournament in Las Vegas on Friday night.
The Mastodons (1-1-1) got off to a rough start as UNLV's (3-0-0) Corey Ackley scored the first goal of the match in the 6th minute. Ackley's goal came off a deflection following an IPFW team save coming off the Rebel's previous shot from Rodrigo Fuentes.
The Rebel's would extend their lead right before halftime as Andy Rodriguez found the back of the net coming off a cross from Julian Portugal in the 38th minute of play.
The 'Dons came out of the break pushing the ball into the UNLV zone, but were unable to capitalize on shots from Austin West and Carmelo Morales.
UNLV would secure the win in the second half following quick goals from Salvador Bernal and Rodriguez in the 59th and 61st minute, respectively.
For the game, UNLV held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks, while the Mastodons edged the Rebels 2-1 in saves.
IPFW looks to rebound when they face Cal State Bakersfield on Sunday, September 7, at 1:30 p.m.
