Second Half Push Sends Mastodons to Double-Digit Win

OMAHA, Neb. - A game-ending 27-11 run by IPFW erased a six-point Omaha lead with 9:24 to play, as the Mastodons pushed ahead to a 10-point, 75-65 win behind 15 second-half points fro Mo Evans, and a double-double from Steve Forbes.
Evans scored a game-high 17 points - 15 in the second half - while dishing out six assists. Forbes picked up his sixth double-double of the year with 15 points and 10 boards. Joe Edwards added 16 points and a season-high five steals.
As a squad, the Mastodons out-rebounded the Mavericks 36-to-26, while leading the assist (16-to-10) and steal (nine-to-seven) battles. IPFW hit 44.6 percent from the field for the game (29-of-65), including hitting 17-of-29 (58.6%) in the second half. The Mastodons were 6-of-23 (26.1%) from long range, and 11-of-13 (84.6%) from the charity stripe - all in the second half. It was also the first win this season for the Mastodons when trailing at halftime.,
The first half saw seven ties and six lead changes, as the largest lead by either team in the period was six points, when the Mastodons jumped ahead 10-4 five and a half minutes into the game.,
Omaha answered back from the six-point deficit with a 10-2 run, taking a two-point advantage four minutes later. From there, the largest lead by either team would be three, as the Mavericks led 29-27 at the halftime break.
The Mavericks led for the majority of the second half, including pushing ahead by as many as six with 9:24 to play.,
IPFW immediately answered from the six-point deficit with an 11-2 run, capped by an Evans three-pointer, and the Mastodons would not trail again in the game.,
With 2:25 to play, Omaha cut the gap to three at 66-63 before the Mastodons closed the door with a 9-2 run, including hitting on seven-of-eight free throw tries in the final minute and half of the game.
Omaha was led by 16 points from Mike Rostampour and CJ Carter, while Marcus Tyus scored a dozen.
The Mastodons return to action on Thursday, February 5 when the team hosts the South Dakota State Jackrabbits in a 7 p.m. tip-off at the Gates Sports Center.
