First Half Goals Down Mastodons at Cincinnati
10/14/2015 9:53:00 PM | Men's Soccer
CINCINNATI – The IPFW men's soccer team kept it close throughout the match, but a pair of opening half goals from the Cincinnati Bearcats were too much for the 'Dons to overcome on the road. Austin West scored the lone goal for the Blue and White as the Mastodons wrapped up their final non-conference road match of the season.
The Bearcats put up an early goal as Jack Clark scored in the 10th minute after a double assist from Terence Carter and Nick Melville. Carter sent the ball into the box as Meville pushed it wide to Clark, who finished to the lower left of the net.
West would respond shortly afterwards after scoring just four minutes later coming off a free kick from 22 yards out. Corey Tom took the set piece as West found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season.
Cincinnati would put up the final goal of the night in the 34th minute as Emmanuel Appiah found the back of the net from 28 yards out for the unassisted goal.
Raphael Kotzock kept the match close as he made six saves against the Bearcats. Kotzock has made at least six saves in two other matches this season, with his season high coming at Bowling Green when made stopped seven shots.
The Blue and White now turn its attention to in-state Summit League rival IUPUI as the 'Dons travel to Indianapolis on Sunday, October 18 at 3 p.m.
