
IPFW Hosting SIUE Saturday Afternoon at the Memorial Coliseum

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- IPFW will host SIUE of the Ohio Valley Conference in men's basketball on Saturday afternoon, November 21, at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne beginning at 2:30 p.m. The Mastodons (2-1) of second-year head coach Jon Coffman will be looking for their third-straight win of the young campaign against the visiting Cougars (1-1), while playing the first of five scheduled games this season at the Memorial Coliseum. The backcourt trio of junior Mo Evans (15.0), redshirt-freshman John Konchar (14.3 points) and redshirt-senior Max Landis (12.3) have led IPFW in scoring through the first three games. SIUE is coached by first year head coach Jon Harris, and is led by sophomore Jalen Henry (14.5 points). The contest is part of a doubleheader and will follow the IPFW women's game against USC Upstate that begins at 12 p.m.

SIUE is 1-1 overall following a season-opening home win past Arkansas State University (79-70) of the Sun Belt Conference and a home loss to Saint Louis University (70-60) of the Atlantic 10 Conference. Members of the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC), the Cougars are coached by Jon Harris, who is in his first season as a head coach. Through two games, SIUE has four players averaging in double-figure scoring, including sophomore Jalen Henry (14.5), junior Burak Eslik (14.0), graduate student Yemi Makanjuola (12.0) and freshman Carlos Anderson (10.0). Henry has also averaged 8.5 rebounds through the two early games. SIUE has averaged 69.5 points, while allowing 70.0 points.

IPFW is 2-1 overall after its first road win of the season at Austin Peay University (80-77), also of the OVC, that followed a season-opening road loss at Valparaiso University (78-64) of the Horizon League before a home win past Division III Manchester University (85-53). The Summit League member Mastodons are coached by second-year head coach Jon Coffman, who is in his fifth season at IPFW and 19th year overall. Through three games, IPFW also has four players averaging in double-figure scoring, including junior Mo Evans (15.0), redshirt-freshman John Konchar (14.3), redshirt-senior Max Landis (12.3), along with freshman Kason Harrell (10.0, one game). Konchar has also averaged 5.3 rebounds through the three early games to lead the Mastodons. IPFW has averaged 76.3 points, while allowing 69.3 points.

APU took an early 5-0 lead at 18:13, before IPFW fought back with a 7-2 run to tie it at 7-7 with 16:34 on the clock as Konchar made back-to-back three-point field goals. The Mastodons extended their run to lead 15-9 at 14:55, getting three-pointers from Max Landis and Mo Evans, along with a layup by senior Joe Reed. The Governors rallied back, however, to take a 27-23 advantage on a three-pointer at 7:07. IPFW, though, finished the half strong by outscoring APU 20-12 to lead 43-39 at the intermission.
