Late Goals Down Mastodons in Non-League Match
11/3/2015 9:36:00 PM | Men's Soccer
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Raphael Kotzock comes within one save of tying his career-best, but the Mastodons came up short, 3-2, following late goals from Wright State.
The Mastodons got on board early after Spencer Brown stole the ball from Wright State and scored from 15 yards out in the 10th minute. Zach Tom would do his best impression eight minutes later after intercepting a Raider pass and finding the back of the net from 20 yards out, putting the 'Dons up by two.
Wright State would respond in the 35th minute after getting a through ball into the box and scoring from 10 yards out, cutting the Mastodon lead to 2-1 at the half.
The Raiders would finish the come-from-behind victory late in the match after tying the match in the 70th minute and earning the game-winning goal with five minutes left in regulation.
Kotzock finished with eight saves on the night, one shy of tying his career best. Oscar Uyamadu finished with two shots on goal, while Tom, Brown, and Thilo Körperich each earned one.
IPFW looks to secure a spot in the Summit League Tournament, held in Denver, Colorado, for the second-consecutive season as they face a must-win match against No. 7 Denver on Saturday at 7 p.m. The Mastodons currently sit fifth in the league table and would need a win to earn a spot in the league tournament. The top four teams make the Summit League Tournament with the tournament winner earning an automatic bid in the NCAA Tournament.
Additionally, the match against the Pioneers will be IPFW's Senior Day as Randy Maksimik, Jose Rodriguez, Bill Whitcomb, Corey Tom, Austin West, and Darnell Parris will each be honored prior to the match.
