On the day, Lindsay Burke led the Mastodons with a pair of hits in four at-bats, both of which were doubles. Burke also scored the lone IPFW run. Avery Nelson, Whitney Ennis, and Caitlyn DeLong all added a hit on the day.
Game one against Colorado State saw both teams strand a runner in the first inning. The Rams opened the scoring in the second with four runs on three straight walks to start the frame. Ennis had a one-out single in the bottom of the second, but the Mastodons were unable to bring her home.
The Rams added two runs on a single and an error in the top of the third. In the bottom half, Nelson drove an 0-1 pitch through the left side with two outs, but was left stranded. CSU added three more runs in the top of the fourth.
The Mastodons got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth as Burke knocked a double to the right center gap with one out. After a groundout moved Burke to third, she scored on a Colorado State passed ball.
Kaitlin Kowalski suffered the loss for the 'Dons, throwing one and two thirds innings, allowing four runs, but did not surrender a hit. Kaitlyn Biere came on for the final three and one third innings, surrendering one earned run on three hits.
In the nightcap, IPFW had base runners reach in four of the five innings, but the Mastodons were unable to push a run across against the Longhorns. Jenna Balthazor led off the game with a walk, Burke doubled in the top of the second, and DeLong singled in the fourth.
Kowalski stepped into the batter's box for the first time this season in the top of the fifth, drawing a full-count walk.
Texas scored four runs in the first, three more in the second, and five more crossed the plate in the third.
In the circle, Sarah Lazarowich took the loss for the Mastodons. Biere pitched the final one and one third innings, allowing just two hits.
IPFW returns to the field on February 14 for a rematch with Colorado State at 11 a.m. and a game against Wichita State at 7:30 p.m.
