Mastodons Fall to Rams and Shockers

In the first game of the day against Colorado State, the Mastodons ran into a tough opposing pitcher in Molly Randle. IPFW managed four base runners in the game, a hit batter, two walks, and a CSU error.
The Rams scored three runs in the bottom of the first, one each in the second and third innings, and two in the fourth. IPFW's first runner reached on a walk to Jenna Balthazor to lead off the fourth. Later in the inning Caitlyn DeLong, reach on an error by the Colorado State third baseman.
In the fifth, Lindsay Burke drew a one-out walk and in the sixth, Hailey Gukeisen led off the inning with a walk. Sarah Lazarowich retired the Rams in order in the fifth, but in the sixth after a Mastodon error, CSU ended the game with a three-run home run.
In the circle, Lazarowich suffered the loss, allowing all 10 runs, six of which were earned.
The final game of the night saw Balthazor draw a leadoff walk to being the game, but the next three Mastodons went down in order, stranding her. Pitcher Kaitlyn Biere kept the Shockers off the scoreboard in the first, retiring three of the four batters she faced.
With two outs in the second, Burke singled to the shortstop, but the 'Dons were unable to bring her home. In the third inning with one out, Balthazor drew another walk. After a sacrifice but from Avery Nelson moved her to second, Balthazor was thrown out at home trying to score on a single by Emily Olszewski to end the inning. IPFW was unable to get a runner on in either the fourth or the fifth inning.
Wichita State scored three runs in the second and nine in the third, three of which came with two outs. The Shockers scored two more runs in the fourth, both coming with two outs.
Biere took the loss for the 'Dons in two innings of work. Kaitlin Kowalski pitched the final two innings in relief.
