ELMHURST, Ill. - IPFW freshman Daniel Cardenas has been named the Summit League Player of the Week for his performance from March 3-9.
He is the second IPFW tennis standout this season to have earned the honor, as Andres Cobos was named Player of the Week twice.
Cardenas went a perfect 2-0 on the week at both singles and doubles, winning in a marathon-match against Niagara by a 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-5) score over Rares Ispas, and then by a 7-5, 6-3 score on March 7 against St. Bonaventure's Trevor Haskell. Teaming with Cobos at No. 2 doubles, the pair won 6-3 against Niagara and 6-4 against St. Bonaventure.
For the season he is 13-11, including a 6-6 mark during the spring, having played at No. 2 (2-3), No. 3 (1-3), and No. 4 (3-0) singles. In doubles, with Cobos, Cardenas is 11-6, including a stellar 8-1 mark at No. 2 pairs during the spring season.
The squad travels to IUPUI on March 14 in the team's final road game of the season, as the squad hosts its final 12 regular-season matches and the subsequent Summit League Championships.
