Mastodons Drop Series Finale to Mavericks

OMAHA, Neb. - In the series finale of its Summit League opener, the IPFW softball team fell to Omaha 5-0.
Jenna Balthazor led off the game with a walk for the Mastodons, but after a fielder's choice, Prestlee Cooper was caught stealing.
Omaha scored a pair of runs in the second inning on a two-out, two-run home run. The Mavericks added three runs in the bottom of the fourth, all coming with two outs in the inning.
In the top of the seventh, with two outs and two strikes, Emily Olszewski broke up the UNO no-hitter with a line drive single to left field.
Kaitlyn Biere suffered the loss in the circle, pitching five and one third innings, allowing five runs on six hits while striking out two. Avery Nelson came on to pitch the final two thirds of an inning, retiring both batters she faced.
IPFW travels to Notre Dame, who is receiving votes in the national coaches poll, for a mid-week contest on March 25 with first pitch set for 5:30 p.m.
