
Wangensten-Oye Named Summit League Player of the Week

ELMHURST, Ill. - IPFW sophomore Karl Wangensten-Oye has been named the Summit League Player of the Week for his performances against Toledo, Cleveland State, and 36th ranked Notre Dame.
Wangensten-Oye went 3-0 in singles on the week, all three going into a third set with the Oslo, Norway product out-lasting all three of his opponents. He topped Stephen Miller of Toledo by a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) score, before coming back two days later for a 7-6, 0-6, 1-0 (11-9) win over Cleveland State's Colton Buffington. Later on Sunday, against 36th ranked Notre Dame, Wangensten-Oye picked up the team's only win, taking a 7-5, 6-7 (6-8), 1-0 (10-5) victory.
This season the sophomore is 21-5 overall, including a 5-0 record at No. 5 singles and 7-3 at No. 6 singles.
He is the third different Mastodon who has earned a Player of the Week award this season, joining Andres Cobos (Jan. 27 and Feb. 10) and Daniel Cardenas (March 10).
Wangensten-Oye and the Mastodons return to action on Saturday, March 28, when the team hosts the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles in a 2 p.m. match, before IPFW faces off against Huntington later that evening at 6 p.m.
