Softball Ready for 2015 Home Opener

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - After 24 consecutive games on the road, the IPFW softball team will finally play a home game as the Mastodons host Western Illinois for a three-game Summit League series beginning March 29 at 2 p.m. The Mastodons are 4-6 all-time at home against the Leathernecks and have won five of the last six meetings.

Scouting the Mastodons
The Mastodons are coming off a tough midweek contest where they fell to Notre Dame, who is receiving votes in both of the national polls, 9-0. Emily Olszewski broke up the Irish no-hitter with a single in the top of the fourth. Kaitlyn Biere took the loss in the circle for the 'Dons as Sarah Lazarowich also saw action on the mound.

Scouting the Leathernecks
Western Illinois is coming off a midweek split with Miami (OH) in Macomb. The Leathernecks took game one 5-4 in eight innings before falling in the nightcap 5-1. Sammy Marshall had a pair of hits in both games for WIU and leads the team with a .483 batting average. She also leads the team with 17 runs scored and 17 stolen bases. In the opener, Teagan Walsh recorded her first win of 2015, pitching the final four innings, allowing one unearned run and striking out one.
