Baseball Puts Hot Streak on Line Against Saints

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW baseball team, which has won nine of its last 12 games, will face off at home against the Saint Mary's Saints on Tuesday afternoon with a 3 p.m. first pitch.

Holy Cross Starter: C.J. Superczynski (0-0, 10.22 ERA)
SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
IPFW has won nine of its last 12 games, and have an even 9-9 record in Summit League play to go with the team's overall record of 20-16.
Evan VanSumeren leads the Mastodons with a .331 batting average and a dozen doubles. Greg Kaiser bats .325, as three others - Jackson Boyce (.317), Shane Trevino (.314), and Brock Logan (.314) - also hit over .300 on the season. Brandon Soat - who is tied for the team lead with 34 RBI's - is just off of the .300 plateau with a batting average of .293. Kaiser leads the team with six home runs, while Shane Trevino has five with a team-high 31 runs and a team-high-tying 34 RBI's.
The pitching staff is led by freshman Evan Miller who 4-2 on the mound with a 4.50 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 50 innings of work. Trevor Storie has 34 strikeouts, a 4-4 record, and a 4.82 ERA, as Ryan Wells is 3-5 on the mound with 49 strikeouts in 48 innings. Jake Weber is 3-1 in 17 appearances, and a team-leading and single-season school record seven saves.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
Holy Cross comes into the game with a 26-15 overall record, and a 16-8 mark in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Leading the way for the Saints is Jacob Lanning, who leads the team in nearly every offensive category including batting average (.476), hits (68), doubles (16), home runs (6), and RBI's (53). Chris Woodruff has scored a team-best 43 runs, as Holy Cross has six regular players hitting above .300 on the year. As a team, the Saints bat .319, and has out-scored their opponents 288-to-204.
The pitching staff is also led by Lanning, who is 8-1 on the mound, with 71 strikeouts in 64 innings of work, and four shutouts. Trey Bickel is 5-2 on the season with a 3.05 ERA as Darwing Ereu has a team-high three saves.
