Mastodons Drop Doubleheader on Senior Day

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW softball team celebrated senior Becca Beier in its last regular season series, however the Mastodons fell in non-league action to Toledo 8-0 and 7-2. IPFW now awaits to find out its opponent for the Summit League Tournament which will be held May 6-9 in Fargo, North Dakota.
Six different Mastodons recorded a hit on the afternoon. Miranda Marion and Kelly Pevely each hit a solo home run in game two. Morghyn Neal and Lindsay Burke each added a double for the 'Dons. Prestlee Cooper and Taylor Gordy Prescott added singles in the second game.
In the opener, Toledo jumped out to an early lead with a pair of runs in the first and second innings. The Rockets added four runs in the top of the fourth. IPFW's lone hit came in the bottom of the third when Burke roped a double over the head of the Toledo center fielder.
Mastodon starter Kaitlyn Biere suffered the loss, throwing a complete game while allowing nine hits on eight runs, five of which were earned.
The 'Dons opened game two with a bang with two outs as Marion delivered the first home run of her IPFW career.
Toledo tied the game in the third on a Mastodon error followed by a wild pitch. The Rockets took the lead in the fifth with a run on another IPFW error.
The Mastodons responded by tying the game in bottom of the sixth. With two away in the inning, Pevely greeted the new Toledo pitcher by depositing the first pitch she saw over the left field fence for her team-leading fourth home run of the season.
The Rockets broke the tie game in the top of the seventh, scoring five runs, all of which came with at least one out.
In the circle for IPFW, Sarah Lazarowich took the loss going seven innings and allowing seven runs, three earned, while striking out three.
