
Women's Tennis Kicks Off Weekend with Win over Mavericks

OMAHA, Neb. - Following a hard-fought loss over the nationally ranked Denver Pioneers, the IPFW women's tennis team kicked off a road weekend with a 6-1 win over the Omaha Mavericks on Friday afternoon.
The Mastodons started strong, taking the doubles point with 8-1 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, as Kristine Lindal and Carlota Trevino won No. 2 pairs, and Sara Sherif and Alina Schibol at No. 3 doubles. The No. 1 doubles team was stopped with the team point already secured.
In singles, No. 1 player Mayu Sato remained perfect on the season - and in her career - in Summit League play, winning 7-5, 6-3 to stake IPFW to a 2-0 advantage.
Omaha picked up its only win at No. 2 singles, with Trevino winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and Sherif 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4, as the Mastodons clinched the team match win.
Sofia Sorokina won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5 singles, with Marcy Huck picking up a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.
The Mastodons return to action on Saturday, April 4 when the team takes on the South Dakota Coyotes in the final game of the team's three-game road swing.
