Olszewski Hits First Career Home Run in Loss

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Emily Olszewski launched the first home run of her IPFW softball career but it wasn't enough as the Mastodons dropped their series finale to IUPUI 14-1.
Olszewski finished the day going 2 for 3 at the plate with a home run and a single. Kelly Pevely and Caitlyn DeLong also had hits for the 'Dons.
IUPUI took an early 2-0 lead as Ali Mosier connected on a pair of solo home runs in the first and third innings.
In the bottom half of the third, Olszewski responded with a two-out solo shot, depositing the 0-1 offering over the left field fence.
The Jaguars added another solo home run in the fourth with one out. In the Mastodon fourth, with one out Pevely and DeLong delivered on back-to-back singles. The 'Dons were unable tie the game as the next two batters were retired.
In the top of the sixth the Jags broke the game open, scoring 11 runs in the inning. Pevely drew a two-out walk in the bottom of the sixth but the final out was recorded to end the game and the series.
Kaitlyn Biere took the loss, tossing five innings and allowing six runs on nine hits while striking out four. Sarah Lazarowich came on to complete the final inning and allowed one earned run on five hits.
IPFW returns to action for a midweek game at Valparaiso on March 7 with first pitch set for 4:30 p.m. ET.
