Lazarowich Strikes Out a Career-High in Victory

Lazarowich struck out a career-high seven batters while scattering eighth hits in the complete game victory. Lazarowich retired eighth consecutive batters at one point and escaped a one-out bases loaded jam in the sixth without surrendering a run.
The 'Dons had seven starters collected a hit on the afternoon as they had the leadoff batter reach in six innings, with five of them coming on a base hit. Jenna Balthazor led the Mastodons at the dish, going 2 for 2 with a sacrifice fly and two RBI. Taylor Gordy Prescott also had a pair of hits going 2 for 4 with a run scored. Emily Olszewski scored a pair of runs while Morghyn Neal had the lone extra base hit for the team, a double. Caitlyn DeLong and Kelly Pevely each had a run and an RBI.
Valparaiso had the lead early with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the first. The 'Dons responded in the top of the second as Pevely led off the inning with a single and stole second. A single by Whitney Ennis put runners on the corners, Balthazor delivered a sacrifice fly down the left field line, allowing Pevely to score from third.
In the top of the third, the Mastodons first three batters reached base. After a single by Gordy Prescott, Olszewski reached on a fielder's choice. Miranda Marion stepped in and lined a single through the left side to load the bases. Following a fly out, Gordy Prescott was called safe at home on a fielder's choice off the bat of Pevely. DeLong stepped in and nearly took one out of the park, delivering on a sacrifice fly all the way to the wall, allowing Olszewski to easily score from third.
The Crusaders got a run back in the bottom of the third on an infield single with the bases loaded and two outs.
IPFW added to its lead in the sixth as DeLong began the inning with a leadoff walk. A sacrifice bunt by Prestlee Cooper moved her to second and Balthazor delivered with an RBI single up the middle to score the run. The 'Dons added an insurance run in the top of the seventh as Olszewski led off the inning with a single. A sacrifice bunt moved her to second before scoring when Neal connected with a 1-2 pitch for a double to the right center gap.
IPFW looks to continue its winning ways when it travels to South Dakota for a three-game series April 11-12.
