
Mastodons Set for Summit League Series at South Dakota

VERMILLION, S.D. - Coming off a non-league midweek victory, the IPFW softball team returns to Summit League action as the Mastodons travel to South Dakota for a three-game series April 11-12.

SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
IPFW avenged two earlier losses to Valparaiso, defeating the Crusaders on Tuesday 5-2. Sarah Lazarowich struck out a career-high seven batters while scattering eight hits in the complete game victory. The 'Dons had seven starters collected a hit on the afternoon as they had the leadoff batter reach in six innings, with five of them coming on a base hit. Jenna Balthazor led the Mastodons at the dish, going 2 for 2 with a sacrifice fly and two RBI. Taylor Gordy Prescott also had a pair of hits going 2 for 4 with a run scored. Emily Olszewski scored a pair of runs while Morghyn Neal had the lone extra base hit for the team, a double. Caitlyn DeLong and Kelly Pevely each had a run and an RBI.

South Dakota is coming off a midweek split with Creighton. The two teams combined to hit 14 home runs and score 45 runs on 53 hits in a doubleheader Wednesday. South Dakota won game one 20-12 in eight innings. Creighton won the nightcap 7-6. USD set program single-game records for runs scored (20), hits (20), and home runs (7) in the opening game. Allie Daly was 4 for 5 with a program-record three home runs while driving in six.
