Men’s Soccer Earns Convincing 3-0 Win At Detroit Mercy

DETROIT – A second half scoring burst helped Fort Wayne men's soccer to a 3-0 shutout at Detroit Mercy on Tuesday (Oct. 4) afternoon.
The 'Dons entered the game sixth in the nation in goals per contest at 2.40. They only improved that number with three second half goals which broke a 0-0 stalemate at the break.
Fort Wayne found the back of the net in the 59th minute. Zach Tom scored from the left side with Edel Ensaldo Bustos assisting on the play. Just over four minutes later Cam Sinclair scored to make it 2-0. Jacob Murphy assisted on the play. In the 76th minute, Fort Wayne concluded the scoring thanks to a goal by Carmelo Morales. The first of his career. Ensaldo Bustos assisted on the goal for his second helper of the day.
Tuesday was Fort Wayne's third shutout of the season. Jorge Trujillo made two saves in 84 minutes. Raphael Kotzock played the final six minutes to combine for the clean sheet.
The win moves Fort Wayne to 7-4-0 on the season. It is the most wins for the 'Dons since recording eight in 2011. Fort Wayne is now two wins away from setting a new NCAA Division I era record for most victories in a season.
Detroit falls to 1-7-3 with the loss.
The Mastodons return to the field on Oct. 11 at Dayton in a non-conference tilt.
