Fort Wayne Falls At Arkansas 92-83 In Season Opener

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Five Mastodons finished in double-digits in a 92-83 setback at Arkansas for Fort Wayne men's basketball on Friday evening (Nov. 11) in the 2016-17 season opener for both clubs.
Fort Wayne held a lead for better than seven minutes of the first half. The 'Dons were up 36-30 after a Mo Evans 3-pointer with just over six minutes left in the half. But Arkansas closed the period on a 20-9 run to take a 51-45 lead to the break.
The 'Dons kept the Razorbacks within striking distance for the majority of the second half. A Racine Talla tip-in at the 5:01 mark made it a five-point game at 77-72. However Arkansas answered with 12-2 run to take control of the game.
Fort Wayne limited Southeastern Conference Preseason Player of the Year Moses Kingsley to nine points.
The 'Dons made 24-of-40 free throw attempts, going to the line 16 more times than their SEC foe. Fort Wayne out-rebounded Arkansas 45-39, including 21-10 on the offensive glass.
John Konchar led Fort Wayne with a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds with four assists. Kason Harrell added 14 points off the bench. Evans and Bryson Scott each contributed 13 points. Xzavier Taylor had 12 points in 15 minutes in his Mastodon debut.
The 'Dons return to action on Sunday (Nov. 13) at Gates in a 2:30 p.m. start against Kenyon.
