Scouting the Mastodons
Fort Wayne men's soccer (9-8-0, 2-3-0 Summit) enters Saturday with plenty on the line. Fort Wayne is in a four-way tie for third place with Western Illinois, Oral Roberts and Eastern Illinois. All four teams have six points, behind second-place Omaha (13 points) and first-place Denver (16 points). There are multiple scenarios which could play out based on Saturday's results, but a win would help Fort Wayne's cause to return to the tournament after a one-year hiatus. The Mastodons have 32 goals on the season, sixth most in a single year all-time in program history. The record is 38 set in 2004.
Scouting the Leathernecks
Western Illinois men's soccer (7-9-1, 2-3-0 Summit) also enters Saturday's game in a similar scenario as the 'Dons, trying to earn one of the final two spots in the tournament. Saturday's contest will be Senior Day for the Leathernecks.
Series History
The Leathernecks have a 9-3-2 lead over the Mastodons in the all-time series, but the Mastodons won the last meeting 2-1 in Fort Wayne last season.
Make It 10
A win on Saturday would give the 'Dons their 10th win of the season, extending the NCAA Division I era program record for single season wins that was set on Saturday (Oct. 29) with a win over IUPUI at nine.. A 10th win would be the most single season wins for the 'Dons since they went 10-8-0 in 2000.
Honors By The Week
Matthew Lieshout was named the Summit League Offensive Player of the Week on Monday thanks to a goal and an assist vs. IUPUI. He is the third 'Don to earn the honor this year. Jacob Murphy and Thilo Körperich both took the award home earlier this year.
No Time To Tie
Fort Wayne has played 41 matches since participating in a contest that results in a tie. Their last tie came Oct. 7, 2014 against Detroit.
Four With Four
Four 'Dons have scored four or more goals this season. Jacob Murphy and Oscar Uyamadu both have seven goals. and Zach Tom owns five goals while Thilo Körperich has scored four times.
Last Time Out
Fort Wayne used a goal from Cam Sinclair in the 102nd minute to get a 3-2 overtime with over in-state rival IUPUI on Saturday (Oct. 29). Matthew Lieshout and Carmelo Morales both scored in the second half.
Looking Ahead
Depending on the result of Saturday's matchup, the 'Dons will be looking to have a matchup in the Summit League Tournament. The tournament opens on Thursday, Nov. 10 in Denver, Colo. with the finals on Saturday Nov. 12.
