Mo Evans Scores 25 But No. 23 Notre Dame Downs Fort Wayne 87-72

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Fort Wayne men's basketball saw their six-game win streak come to an end on Tuesday (Dec. 6) in an 87-72 loss at No. 23 Notre Dame.
Fort Wayne struggled from the floor in the first half, shooting 32.1 percent. Notre Dame barely cracked the 40 percent mark themselves, but made seven 3-pointers in the first 20 minutes to earn a 41-23 lead at the break.
Mo Evans went off in the second half for the Mastodons. He scored 21 of his 25 points in the final 20 minutes. He finished with four 3-pointers.
The 'Dons fell behind by as many as 27 in the second half, only to cut the Notre Dame lead to 13 points at 79-66 with just under five minutes to play thanks to a three straight baskets by Xzavier Taylor. Fort Wayne would slice the deficit to as low as nine with 2:49 remaining, but could come no closer.
Evans added five rebounds and three assists to his game-high 25 points. John Konchar added 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting with nine rebounds and three steals. Taylor totaled 10 points off the bench.
The 'Dons out-rebounded Notre Dame 38-37 and held a 36-28 edge in points in the paint. But the 'Dons could force only six Notre Dame turnovers. Fort Wayne finished the game out-shooting Notre Dame 45.9 percent (26-of-61) to 41.8 percent (28-of-67).
Notre Dame stays unbeaten at 9-0. Fort Wayne falls to 7-3. The 'Dons are in action again on Saturday (Dec. 10) against Austin Peay. Tip at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum is set for 2:30 p.m.
