Softball Splits in Day One of USF Series

Emily Olszewski (4 for 6) and Kristen Zarate (3 for 4) led IPFW at the plate on the day. Sierra Miranda had three hits while Kelly Pevely and Sydney Windlan add two a piece. Olszewski led the way in runs and RBIs with three and four, respectively.
In the first game, the 'Dons scored the first seven runs of the ballgame all in the second inning. After four walked-in runs, Kelley Pevely batted in two with a single to left. A sacrifice fly by Amber Davis would score Jessica Murray to put IPFW up 7-0. Cornell would fight back putting up four runs in the third inning and another three runs in the fourth. Demitra Burns would come in relief in the fourth to stop the Big Red attack and received the win. The Mastodons would add runs in the fifth and sixth to seal the victory
Elizabeth Snodgrass started the game and pitched 3 2-3 innings before Burns came in for relief. Burns pitched the final 3 1-3 innings allowing zero runs.
Game two the College of Charleston did most of its damage in the sixth scoring six runs with one in the first, three in the second, and one in the third.
IPFW got on the board in the bottom of the second by an Olszewski single that saw Jenna Balthazor and Caitlyn Delong cross home plate.
Sarah Lazarowich toed the rubber to start the game and went 5 2-3 innings. Burns pitched the final 1-3 inning for the 'Dons
The Mastodons return to action March 5 to play in another pair of games in the USF Serie - Under Armour Invitational, one against Northern Kentucky and one versus Villanova.
